I don’t know where this month has gone to, but It suddenly dawned on me that there are only two and a half weeks before our next fund raisers.  On Friday night, August 3rd from 5 to 7 PM, we are having our annual  Fair time “All you can eat- Taco Feed”.  It will be the last Taco feed of 2018!  If you’ve never been to one of our feeds, you are in for a real treat.  We are serving, build your own taco’s on a soft flour tortilla with all the accompaniments you could ask for including Guacamole, sour cream, diced fresh tomatoes, cilantro, diced fresh chilies, shredded lettuce, salsa, cheese and olives.  The dinner includes refried beans and Spanish rice plus a Brownie for dessert and coffee or lemonade!  All for an $8 donation at the door! Children 10 and under eat for $4.
Then the following morning, Saturday, August 4th from 6 to 9AM, we are putting on an “All you can eat – Breakfast Burrito Bar”  You will be able to make your own Breakfast Burrito with Scrambled Eggs, Sausage and Hash brown Potatoes.  Plus all the usual side condiments for a burrito such as salsa, sour cream, guacamole, refried beans, watermelon and cantaloupe plus Coffee, juice and maybe a little something sweet.  The cost for the breakfast is $10 and children 10 and under eat for $5.
It’s the first time we are trying a breakfast, and I have high hopes that people will want to get out early and have someone else do the cooking (it’s too hot to cook at home).  If you haven’t already made plans for that morning, Start your day off with a great breakfast here at the senior center!
We decided to leave the Quilt, made by Dinah Wells, of Dinah’s Fabrics, out for the festivities and perhaps sell a few more tickets during the fair.  The drawing for the quilt will be on Wednesday, August 8th, so it will be your last opportunity to buy more raffle tickets.  Of course, you can come into the center anytime before then and I would be happy to sell you tickets, but if you’re not out and about, but want to support the senior center then either of these two events will be your best opportunity.  The tickets are $1 each, 6 for $5 or 25 tickets for $20.
We have a few people having birthday’s in July.  Mary Anna Crogh, Ron “Butch” Emert, Genevieve Fisk, Irene Hargis, ClaraAnn Lichtenberger, David Nudo, Paul Radasch, Lyle Sall and Laurel Sherman.  Happy Birthday to all of you!
Part of my job here at seniors, is to help get people to meals.  I have told people from time to time that I would be happy to pick them up and bring them into Seniors for lunch but no one has ever said, ”Yes, that would be great”.  I know that many of our members in Midvale and outlying areas of Cambridge might come in if transportation were provided.  So, I’m going to suggest that on Wednesday’s I will drive the van down to the Mercantile  in Midvale and if anyone would like to come to lunch that day, just meet me in front of the Mercantile by 11AM.  It would be great if you would call ahead and let me know 208-257-3358, but I will be there starting on Wednesday, July 25th at 11 AM.  I will wait for 10 minutes and if no one comes, so be it.  I will drive back  with an empty bus.
If you live in Cambridge and  want a ride into seniors, just call me here at the center and I will make arrangements to pick you up on the way back from Midvale.  I want the bus it to be available for you.  If you can’t make it to the Mercantile, you will need to call me at 208-257-3358 and give me directions and I will pick you up at your house.  There is a way to come to seniors, if you want it.  I plan on doing this through the month of August.  And if there are still no takers, I will abandon the effort.
This Wednesday, July 18th is our Food Pantry day, and we are also having a speaker from Idaho Power talking to us about Energy Efficiency and birds of Prey in our area.  The menu for that day is BBQ Pork, potato salad, baked beans, dinner rolls and strawberry rhubarb dessert.
Friday, July 20th Ursula is making Sloppy Joe Sandwiches, French fries, garden salad and dessert.
On Monday, July 23rd Pat Flores will be here to do a foot clinic.  She starts at 9AM and usually ends around 11 or so.  If you have thick toenails that are hard to cut, or if you just plain can’t reach them, give me a call at 208-257-3358 and I will set you up with an appointment.  The charge for this service is $20.  That Wednesday, July 25th , it’s Oven Fried Chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, rolls, coleslaw, corn and carrot cake for dessert.
I see, I’ve become rather long winded today, so I think I had better wrap things up.  Have a great week everyone!
