The Cambridge-Midvale Senior center is finally moving into the social media phase of our existence as an organization!  We now have a Face Book page!  We have talked about starting one for years and our secretary, Lynda Yoder, made one for us.  If you are on Face Book, stop by our page, Cambridge Midvale Senior Center, and say “Howdy”.  Of course, we would love it if you would “like our page”  and recommend our page to others. 
                Lynda, listed me as an administrator in addition to herself, but I really don’t have a clue as to what I’m supposed to be doing.  This will be a work in progress on all fronts!  Next time you are on your computer, take a few minutes to check us out.
                This Wednesday, August 15th is our food pantry.  One of the items we ordered was  White Beans.  Now, I don’t know about you, but I do enjoy a good bowl of beans.  They are a really good source of vitamins, minerals, fiber and protein for your body, and you can dress them up in a variety of ways with different spices.  You can even make “White Bean Blondies” (Brownies).  We will be giving out several different recipe’s with each bag of beans.    
                I realize that a lot of people don’t eat beans because they can cause gas in the intestinal tract. You can minimize this characteristic of beans by doing a “hot soak”, bringing them to a boil for one hour and then letting them sit for an hour or so. Then, pour off the soaking water and add new water to finish cooking the beans.  If you are using canned beans, always wash the beans before using them in your favorite recipes.  Of course nothing is perfect, but it will help.
                With all the heat and smoke, I let go of my walking for a few weeks, but I started again this morning.  It was so nice to walk the trail and see the mountains and breathe clean air.  I feel so blessed to be living here.
                Looking ahead one week, we are having an AARP safe driving class.  Currently there are only two of us signed up but Larry Olsen, the instructor, says he will come for two as well as ten.  If you want to join us, let me know before Friday, August 17th.  You could just show up, but he wouldn’t have course materials for you.  Then on Wednesday, August 22nd we will have a speaker on  Living wills, trusts etc.  It should be an informative 20 minutes to say the least.  Monday, August 27th is the date of our foot clinic.  If you would like an appointment, please give me a call at 208-257-3358.
                This coming Wednesday, August 15th Ursula is serving:  Roast turkey, Mashed potatoes and gravy, fruit salad, rolls, green beans and pineapple dump cake.  Friday, August 17th, we are serving:  Spaghetti with meat sauce, salad, French garlic bread, peaches and dessert.
                Next week’s Wednesday meal is Hamburger stroganoff over noodles, salad, mixed vegetables, rolls and banana bars.  On Friday, August 24th we are having Ham and beans, corn bread, salad, mixed fruit and a dessert.
