On May 3rd and 4th Weiser High Chamber Choir members Ellie Walker and Emma Tolman placed in the top ten at the Idaho Music Educators Association State Solo & Ensemble Competition. The competition was held at Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho.
Ellie Walker a junior at Weiser High competed as a Mezzo Soprano, singing “The Sleep That Flits On Baby's Eye” composed by John Alden Carpenter. Her accompanist was her mother Sherilee Walker on the piano. Walker competed on the 4th and walked away from state in 9th place. This was not Walker's first experience at the state solo competition, she has been to state every year of her high school career so far. Walker shared her thoughts on her performance this year, “I felt a little more confident this year. I think I could have done better, but I am happy that I was able to go”. Walker thinks anyone who can should take the opportunity to experience state stating, “Do it! It is really fun.”
Emma Tolman a freshman at Weiser High competed as a Soprano, singing “Down In The Forest” composed by Landon Ronald. She was accompanied by her mother Lara Toman on the piano. Tolman competed on the 3rd and sang her way into 6th place. This was Tolman's first time competing at state. She shared how she felt it went by stating, “I think it was really, really good. It probably was one of my better times performing it in front of people. I was really proud of myself, especially because I was quite nervous. It was my first year and I have never done anything like it before. It was a good experience and I really enjoyed it.”
Congratulations to both ladies.
