Clarence Smith of Weiser recently received a Quilt of Valor for his military service in the United States Army National Guard.  Smith served from 1957 to 1962 and started out as a Private First Class (PFC).  After a couple years, he became an Army Specialist 3rd Class and worked in the communications headquarters.  Smith eventually was able to take over as Sergeant E5.

Smith was a part of the 116th Cavalry Brigade Combat Team, which is still in Idaho today.  He stated that they did most of their drills in Weiser and during the summer months, he went to Gowen Field based in Boise, Idaho.  During his time in the military, his team did not experience a war or any deployments, but Smith says that it was a great experience for him.  He was very proud to be in the US Army National Guard and enjoyed what he did for our country.

Thank you, Mr. Smith, for your dedication and service to our country!
