From Tim Atwood, Fire Chief of Weiser Rural Fire Department

The fire at 985 Hwy 95 was reported by the occupants at 7:45 pm. An investigation by Tim Atwood of Weiser Area Rural Fire District and Alan Perry from the Idaho State Fire Marshall's office found that ashes from a wood stove had accidentally been disposed of in a plastic garbage can. The garbage can caught fire and spread to a firewood stack and then the garage attached to the home.

Weiser Area Rural Fire District crews arrived on scene and found a large fire quickly spreading through the garage and carport. Crews were able to control fire spread into the house. The garage, carport, an SUV, a pickup a travel trailer and other possessions were lost.  One of the occupants received minor burns attempting to fight the fast growing fire. A long narrow, steep driveway limited access and added to the difficulty of controlling the fire. Weiser City Fire also responded to assist. Payette Fire Department also assisted with a Water Tinder.

Tim wanted everyone to know that firefighters did a outstanding job on a tough fire, it was a good "stop".
