New Ownership at Jebs Corner
By C. Lawrence
The rumors are TRUE! Jeb’s Corner on Main Street in Weiser has sold and will be taken over by a Weiser native! Josh and Brenda Lukehart Mattson are the proud new owners and have had a lot of support from the community and their families already.
Josh Mattson is retiring from the Air Force after 22 years of service and they’ve spent some time talking about what the next phase of life will bring. Brenda and Josh were both shocked to hear that Jeb’s was for sale. The restaurant “is an icon and has been for 30+ years,” said Brenda. They had never even thought about running a restaurant business but the idea of buying Jeb’s “just felt right!” Brenda stated. The Mattson’s followed their instincts and decided to go for it! They are really excited to get back into the Weiser community where they feel supported and at home.
When a restaurant changes ownership, the first thought many people have is what changes might happen to the business. “Why change a good thing?” are the thoughts of the Mattson’s. They plan to keep all of the current employees and also plan to keep everything pretty much the same. The menu will continue to offer the same delicious foods Jeb’s has always offered and down the road, they may think about adding a few new sandwiches. Keeping the same Jeb’s “feel” is what they want. For now, the same days and hours will remain the same as well. Brenda stated that they would like to extend the hours and possibly the days that Jeb’s is open in the future. A few touch-ups to the building inside and out are also in the works for a personal “new owner” touch.
As of Monday, March 30th, 2020, Jeb’s Corner is officially owned by the Mattson’s! It will take a few days to switch things over. Brenda said that they are planning to be open to the public on Thursday, April 2nd. This could potentially change, depending on how things go this week. The Mattson’s would love to do a Grand Opening at a later date when the community can safely gather.
“I think what excites us most about taking on this new business is that we will be back in the Weiser Community! The community is like no other and that can’t be explained to people who don’t live there,” exclaimed Brenda. She said that their daughters Annabelle and Abbi are equally excited to be spending so much time in Weiser. They will be commuting back and forth from Boise but they plan to be “fully immersed in the business,” Brenda noted. They feel so excited to be back around their supportive families, the Lukehart and Gomez Families, who have been helping and supporting them along the way.
With all the concern and worry about the current global health pandemic, Brenda stated that they’ve been praying about this opportunity and the process has gone so smoothly. They feel that this was meant to be and exactly where they are supposed to be! Considering that many loan and insurance companies have stopped insuring restaurants for new businesses, Brenda said that they are very lucky and are pushing forward in this exciting new adventure! “We look forward to seeing all those smiling faces we’ve missed over the last few years!”
