Jack P. McDaniel, 89, Weiser, ID, died Tuesday, January 2. Jack was born May 10, 1928 in Concrete, WA to Ralph and Charlotte (Speker) McDaniel. He had three brothers and one sister – Sheila, Robert (Bob), Harvey, and Jerry. The family traveled the Northwest as Ralph worked at large construction and dam building projects. They settled in Boise, ID in the early 1930’s. Jack attended Boise schools and graduated from Franklin High School. He enjoyed basketball, the great outdoors, hunting and mechanical things of all sorts and sizes. He married his sweetheart, Grace Frances (Fran) Mitchell in 1949. They soon moved to Weiser, ID, where Jack continued his employment with Mountain Bell Telephone.
Jack and Fran had three children, Bennett (Benny), Becky, and Richard (Rick). Jack worked all over Washington County as an installer for the phone company for many years. He also had an insulation business and a motorcycle dealership. He then started his own business, McDaniel Construction, in 1967. He was well known in the Weiser area, being easily identified by his yellow hard hat and his white pickup truck. He used his free time hunting, jet boating, and driving and camping along every road in his corner of the world, his beloved Fran at his side.
Jack is survived his sister, Sheila Andrews, and brother, Jerry (Holly) McDaniel; son Benny (Petra) McDaniel, and their daughters, Melissa (Trev) Odoms and Sarah (Joe) Kemmer; son Rick (Barb) McDaniel, and their children Joshua McDaniel, Shane (Barbara) Holloway, Corey (Kym) Holloway, and Jacob (Karen) McDaniel. He is also survived by 11 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, his beloved wife, Fran, his daughter, Becky, one grandchild and one great grandchild.
At Jack’s request, a family graveside service and burial will be scheduled at a later date.
